On May 20th, 2019 our fellows from Cohort 3 of the NS GovLab met for the first time at Windhorse Farm in New Germany, Nova Scotia. The fellows gathered from all over the province to embrace social innovation theory and methods. For the next 12 months they will be researching, prototyping, testing, and learning from new ideas in support of our aging population.

When our fellows arrived we asked them to reflect on what they are bringing into the fellowship. In selecting our fellows we knew we had identified some exceptional people who value innovation and community work, but we wanted to know more. To dive deeper, we asked our fellows, “What is your superpower?” These are some of their responses.

We have fellows who are trailblazers with exceptional powers of happiness. Throughout orientation they demonstrated this when they showed up, acted as leaders in our activities, and found joy in our methods. There are others who are skilled at talking fast and listening deeply, allowing them to integrate into the community, communicate messages effectively, and gather information for their research.

One of our fellows has a deep well of empathy and another identified their superpower as overthinking. Some fellows identified themselves and being able to stay calm in chaos and others as being able to laugh at just about anything. Fellows in Cohort 3 have superpowers in the areas of patience, intuition, and even napping on planes.

Our fellows are comprised of individuals with unique values, beliefs, knowledge, and skills. They are a dynamic group of individuals coming together for the common goal of finding innovative solutions for complex challenges related to aging populations. We look forward to working with the 16 individuals in Cohort 3 over the next 12 months.
